Ambition: A Dynamic Element in Life

Our ambition is what we owe pretty much everything we have as business owners. And not just business owners - everyone. Ambition is a dynamic element in your life. What you were striving after as a child is different than what you were striving after as a teenager, young adult, entrepreneur, unsuccessful entrepreneur, successful entrepreneur.

As your ambition changes, your values change as well. Specifically, you realize how much you need to concede part of your value system to get to the next step. We live in a capitalistic system. As much as I would love to just share money for free with everyone, in an ideal utopic world there would be universal income. But you have to get to a point where you are comfortably in a position to truly stick to your values.

I'm observing that within myself. As I become financially free, I find the luxury of sticking to my values. Each person needs to determine for themselves when that moment is and to what extent you desire it.

Most people in life seek purpose, profits, or peace. It depends on what the base of that pyramid is - is it profit, purpose or peace? We all need to work on those three elements.

My ultimate ambitious goal is to get into a position of so much financial freedom that I can tap into my true values. Like the story of Rockefeller - had he not been so ruthless and aggressive in his earlier years, he would probably never have gotten to a point where he could make the immense donations that have impacted us today. That is the interplay and balancing act of ambition and values over time.
