How long have you been at Amazon and what brought you here??
Soon to be 8.5 years! I joined Amazon straight out of college, and have loved it ever since.
Tell us about a time you felt supported at Amazon. What support did you receive? How did this change your perspective of Amazon?
Amazon is unique in its sheer number of opportunities to transfer. I started out as an Area Manager working in a Fulfillment Center warehouse, and ended up in my current role leading a multi-faceted tech team. I would not have been successful in any of my positions if I didn’t have the opportunity to experience new teams, roles, and subjects. I was nervous at first talking to my manager about transferring, but in every job or location change, my managers were supportive and even encouraging to help me learn more and move towards my desired career. That is an attitude that I carry with me to every team member I now manage, helping them achieve their career goals and promoting a culture of learning.

What brings you passion/excitement to your role and team??
The ability to automate, standardize, and improve efficiency on a large scale. Amazon’s North American Customer Fulfillment serves millions of customers every day, and to be able to help improve that customer experience can be extremely rewarding. Making what seems like a small change and seeing just how big of a positive impact it can have is something truly unique.

What accomplishment at Amazon are you most proud of?
My proudest moment at Amazon was actually a series of moments, building up a tech team in an organization that previously did not have one. We recognized the need to modernize the team’s processes, and aligned to not only hire new employees to support, but also train and develop existing employees to help get them into new job opportunities in the tech space that they may have never even considered. Seeing those team members move into more specialized tech roles, putting together a structure, and finally seeing the direct customer and business impact of the team’s work was incredibly satisfying. I like to think that all employees have a sense of pride in their work, but at Amazon knowing that putting in the time for what seems like just a small change can impact millions of people getting their packages correctly is a wild feeling.
What do you do for fun/work-life balance?
I believe strongly in work-life balance for my team and myself, and always strive as best as I can to make sure folks have time to enjoy life outside of work. Personally, I enjoy hanging out with my wife and two cats, occasionally going golfing, taking hikes, or just hanging out and watching movies or playing Mario kart.
