Amazon Tells Staff To Get Back To Office Five Days A Week!
Last month, Amazon announced that as of January 2025, they will be ending their hybrid working policy and require staff back in the office five days a week.
The Chief Executive, Andy Jassy, has said this would help staff ‘better set up to invent, collaborate and be connected to each other’.

Amazon’s push to get staff back into the office has been a source of tension within the firm, who currently employ 1.5 million people globally.
Last year, staff in the Amazon Seattle headquarters staged a protest as the company tightened its remote working policy. As a result, Amazon fired the organiser of the protest!

Amazon’s Chief Executive has said Amazon was seeing its corporate culture diluted by flexible work and too many bureaucratic layers. Amazon have stated staff will still be able to work remotely in unusual circumstances such as a sick child or house emergency, as was the case before the pandemic, but apart from this, staff are expected to be in the office 5 days a week.
?
Amazon’s stance contrasts with the UK government’s approach to make flexible working a default from day one as part of a new employment rights bill. The government wants to end the ‘culture of presenteeism’ and explains there are economic benefits to people working from home.
Remote work peaked during the pandemic, however many companies have started recalling staff since 2022, but the return has been incomplete.
?
If you are a hybrid worker, how would you react if told to return to the office five days a week? Would it have a negative impact on your life and how? Would you just put up with it or look for another job?
?
For every high-profile company cancelling work from home, there are others that are expanding it!
