First, how can we be sure that Amazon is coming to Poland? So, there is now official confirmation form Amazon, but there a few things, which make the news "Amazon is coming to Poland" very likely:
1) When you order goods to from Amazon.de to Poland, they are delivered by Pocztex (part of Poczta Polska) from 2020.
2) Many translation agencies have been working full time over the past two years, translating descriptions from German to Polish for Amazon
3) Amazon has taken part in e-commerce events such as trade fairs and conferences in Poland this year for the first time ever.
When will it happen?
In our opinion, it’s likely that Amazon.pl will start in until June 2020 or in Q1 2021, as Amazon usually focusses in driving business for the Christmas season in the 2nd half of the year.
Why Amazon will succeed in Poland?
There are over 600 million items on Amazon.com. 200 million items from Amazon.de will be available, and Amazon.pl will host over 100,000,000 goods in the short-to-mid term.
In addition, there are hundreds of thousands of sellers from around the world who will offer their products through Amazon and also have access to Amazon.pl.
This will quickly make Amazon the #1 online store in Poland as no other marketplace has such a large selection of products.
Amazon’s extra services, such as Prime, free delivery, Amazon video, secure returns and 1Click Order are bound to be lapped up by the Polish consumer, fast-track Amazon’s expected success in Poland.
Amazon’s 8th Logistic centre in Poland is under construction, which will enable the complete ‘Amazon Prime’ service in Poland. According to a report from Senuto, Amazon was Poland’s 18th most popular eCommerce store in 2019, according to visibility in Google. Combine these two facts together, and you can easily see how Amazon is poised to shake up the ecommerce world in Poland.
What does this mean for the eCommerce market in Poland?
The awareness among the Polish population that Amazon exists is growing very quickly. In other countries, Amazon is very prominent in TV commercials and other channels, and when Amazon sets a goal, it usually achieves it.
As a result, there will be many people who start turning to Amazon.pl for more of their shopping needs. On the other side of the coin, many Polish Enterpreneurs (Brands & Reseller) will start using Amazon as a way to reach new customers.
However, as a result of the fact that many foreign sellers will sell to Poland via Amazon, the Polish ecommerce market will have to deal with many newer competitors - a classic situation in the context of globalization. This will be of particular benefit to the end user.
What are Chances and Risks for polish e-tailer?
It’s not all bad news for Polish sellers: They’ll be able to send goods quickly and cheaply in Poland, but also to a much larger audience that’s abroad.
However, in order to remain real, e-tailers abroad are also aware of the advantages that Poland as a location for storage space and logistics operations gives. And they do it, by using logistic providers or even Amazon‘s Logistic offer “FBA” in Poland, to be able to ship cheap and fast to europe and especially to germany.
Ultimately though, it makes little to no difference where a seller is, or where they sell their product, thanks to the EU, as anyone can sell to anyone.
The key to success in eCommerce is to get your products onto all international marketplaces as quickly as possible - and in Global marketplaces, Amazon is by far the biggest. The next most important factor is for the seller to have first-class content for their products. Resellers of branded goods should automate as much of the sales process as possible by leveraging new technologies such as Big Data to stay in front of the competition.
The weak will be left behind, and the the largest and most innovative companies will finally start selling via Amazon in Poland, but also abroad. This is where the largest potential and turnover lays - the holy grail for many Polish businesses.
Only 33% of new Sellers, make a sale on Amazon
Meeting the requirements to sell on Amazon is also a challenge that many sellers overlook, and many Polish brands will unfortunately not meet. To give you an idea of how difficult Amazon’s criteria is, our data shows that there are 3000 selling applicants every day on Amazon. Of that 3000, only 990 actually make a sale, and less than 600 of them sell more than $8.300USD/€7.630 per month.
How can Polish dealers and manufacturers prepare for Amazon?
There are few things that Polish brands, by resellers and manufacturers can do to prepare for the launch of Amazon, and to speed up their success:
1) Learn how to sell successfully on Amazon and familiarise themselves with the risks and opportunities.
2) Register your sales account, as the number of new Polish seller accounts for Amazon, will grow very soon. There may be a longer waiting period for your account to be verified and activated.
3) Develop your Amazon business plan with an expert
4) Implement your plan and strategy.
