Companies of all sizes are facing rising costs and increasingly passing them onto consumers, which can sometimes include other businesses.

Starting April 28, Amazon will charge sellers who rely on the e-commerce giant to house and deliver their goods a 5% “fuel and inflation surcharge.”? You can read all the details here, including how the fee will be assessed on retail versus non-retail items.

Meanwhile, sellers on Etsy went on strike in protest of the company’s announcement that it was increasing fees by as much as 30% for sellers who use its platform. Now, those who went on strike are considering forming a union.

While these are the most public increases to reach small businesses, owners should expect additional costs elsewhere as China’s covid lockdown further jams the global supply chain.

How will these fee increases impact your business? Will you try to absorb the cost or pass it on to your consumers?

Any business really needs to consider their costs, at the same time as considering their customers financial situation. Accepting the squeeze on margin may be inevitable.

They should be charging the buyers, these platforms are useless without the products and assets of small businesses.

Yeah I am suffering from a huge rape of my life situation by Angie’s list/Home Advisor. I have been with both since they started and had to have a second brain surgery and after surgery (or rather during) the state told me I could renew my license on line and so I did and gave them my credit card number and then I am told by before mentioned business that I was not licensed and so they threw me out of my grandfathered in clause and they started charging me hundreds of dollars for just contact info and that info was not even correct. Foundation repair was a crack in a ceiling. Now I know that it could cause the issues but these people just wanted the crack patched. Time and time again I got horrible service and leads and they take the money and run rather then back someone that has been in business for 45 years. The entire company is just greedy money worshiping—————_ I can’t say how I feel.

We can already see this at the local USPS. Shipping/mailing rates have increased to compensate for the larger companies' free shipping promotions, according to the Postmaster. Where else have you experienced an increase in distribution costs?
