Amazon Lockers digitizing logistics

Amazon Lockers digitizing logistics

Amazon Locker can help by providing a safe and convenient way for anyone to receive their Amazon parcels without adding to post room volume. Amazon Lockers are self-service kiosks where customers can receive or return their Amazon parcels by selecting a Locker location and collecting or dropping off an item at a time that is convenient for them.

Amazon has been placing these lockers across their recently acquired brick and mortar units of Whole Foods. Being able to grab some organic red lentil rotini and extra virgin olive oil along with an Echo Dot would, I believe, prove to be productive for both Whole Foods market as well as the digital Amazon. So the Amazon Prime membership is not the only integration mechanism available out here between Amazon and Whole Foods.

Remains to be seen when they would launch this outside of the US, Europe, Japan etc - where such automation in logistics is yet to catch up. For example in India they are testing it out manually to measure feasibility. I would bet this would be a necessary and high demand solution to a market like India which has high logistical challenges. They could be placed in large residential apartments, kept outside largely empty India Post offices, obviously retail stores and more. Time would tell.

Last week I had the pleasant experience of testing out one of their lockers. First of all I could have an address to deliver - that could not be originally done to my hotel. Second... I managed to grab an echo on their prime day sale... Third... I could pick it up at my convenience. Fourth... safe and sound. Finally I had to step into Whole Food store which I would usually skip against a cheaper option.

Way to go Amazon.
