Amazon, e-commerce and tech giant, yesterday announced it is partnering up with Chase to introduce a new VISA credit card exclusively for its most loyal customers – Prime members. The card not only offers Prime members a 5% back on Amazon purchases, but other rewards as well. For instance, 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores, and 1% back everywhere else.
Obviously, with such a partnership Amazon targets its Prime members with a single and clear focus – to encourage increased spending on the site. Apart from the aforementioned benefits in terms of the card, there is no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees when traveling or when cross-border shopping, travel protection, 24/7 concierge service and zero fraud liability. On top of that, according to Amazon, there is no cap on rewards earned and those rewards never expire.
Amazon strives to increase Prime members' spending on the site.
Taking all of this into account, why anyone shouldn’t use Amazon (Prime)? It appears like a silly question, especially if we consider that Prime members can take advantage of other Amazon’s services like Prime Video (alternative to Netflix), Prime Music, free e-books and magazines through Prime Reading, Audible Channels, unlimited photo backup and storage via Prime Photos etc. And all of this just for $99 yearly membership.
About half of all US households use Amazon Prime.
According to estimates, there are from 58 to 69 million Amazon Prime members. This is approximately a half of all US households, which is truly impressive (!). This program is key to Amazon’s bottom line, given that Prime members spend more than double what non-members do.
While others are looking how to SELL to their customers, Amazon is taking CARE of their customers. That is why I admire Jeff Bezos and everything that he has built.
