Amazon keyword research with free tool Sonar
Keywords are one of the most important success factors on Amazon. However, researching keywords is still a very tedious process, and despite long hours of research, sellers still often miss important keywords.
This is why at Sellics we decided to build Sonar - Sonar is a free Amazon keyword tool that pulls keywords directly from the real search terms of Amazon customers.
Key features of Sonar:
- 110 million Amazon keyword database: Sonar has the most comprehensive Amazon keyword database; all the keywords are real Amazon search terms used by real shoppers.
- Keyword search volume: Sonar provides an Amazon keyword search volume calculated on only Amazon metrics.
- Reverse ASIN Search: Copy & paste the ASIN of any product into Sonar and see the keywords your competitors are ranking for.
- Keyword Translator: Use the Sonar Keyword Translator to to search for a keyword in your native language, and Sonar will then display the matching keyword in your targeted language.
Importantly, you can use Sonar for different purposes to help you sell more on Amazon:
- Increase PPC ad visibility on Amazon (find PPC keywords with high search volume)
With Sonar you have the ability to sort keywords by search volume, which will help you to quickly drill down to a list of the most relevant keywords for your product. Instead of waiting for your auto campaign to slowly reveal new search terms, leverage Sonars’ free keyword database to help you build a comprehensive list of relevant keywords from day one.
You can also use Sonar to quickly expand your list of long tail keywords: Copy & paste the long tail keywords you’ve identified in your Search Term Report into Sonar, which will then generate a list of relevant keywords, which you can export via Excel and paste into your PPC campaigns again.
2. Improve your organic product rankings on Amazon
Keywords are the main driver for your product’s visibility in Amazon’s search results. Use Sonar to quickly identify the most relevant keywords in your niche, and then prioritize the list of keywords using the search volume indicator.
Make sure to add the most relevant keywords with the highest search volume to your product title, listing description, and bullet points. You can learn more about keyword optimization here.
3. Identify winning product characteristics when researching new products
Sonar gives you insight into the popular characteristics of a product customers are searching for, and will help you to drill down to the most popular type variations of a product.
Below we will walk you through the three search functions of Sonar; Keyword Search, Extended Search, and Reverse ASIN Search.
?
Sonar Keyword Search Functions
1. Keyword Search (search by word stem)
Start by typing your desired source keyword into the search field. Based on this, you will receive keyword suggestions that contain the source keyword in any combination of positions, i.e. in the beginning, middle, or end.
For example, using the source keyword "gloves women" you will receive the following suggestions:
- white gloves women
- women crossfit gloves
- fingerless gloves for women
2. Extended Search (search synonymous keywords)
In the Extended Search mode, you will also receive keyword suggestions with the source keyword, but also suggestions for synonymous keywords. This means you will receive more diversified keyword suggestions.
For example, if you search “yoga ball” using the Extended Search function, in addition to keyword suggestions with the source keyword “yoga ball”, you will also receive synonymous keyword suggestions such as:
- exercise ball
- therapy ball
- ball chair
- stability ball
- excersize ball (which is a misspelled but commonly used phrase)
3. Reverse ASIN Search (discover your competitors’ keywords)
The Reverse ASIN Search function will give you the keywords a specific product is ranking for. The main advantage of the Reverse ASIN search function is that you do not need a source keyword in order to start your keyword research.
Simply copy & paste the ASIN of any Amazon product into Sonar, and you’ll see an immediate list of the keywords your competitors are using. The Reverse ASIN Search will usually find fewer keywords than the other two search functions, however these keywords tend to be extremely accurate for the respective niche.
4. Combine all three search functions for comprehensive results
To perform a comprehensive keyword search you can combine all three search functions. For example, you can begin your keyword research using the Reverse ASIN Search function on a competitor’s product to generate keyword ideas, then use the Extended Search function to identify popular synonyms for the keywords you’ve found. Finally, use the Keyword Search function to find all the relevant combinations for the most important keywords.
Keyword Search Volume — which keywords are the most popular?
Sonar provides an Amazon search volume estimate for all keyword results. Because Amazon does not publish their internal search data, the search volume results in Sonar are based on our own internal algorithms which leverage various Amazon data sources.
The search volume estimate identifies the keywords used the most by Amazon customers, thus allowing you to prioritize them accordingly. The scale of the search volume ranges from 1 to 5 bars, with 5 bars representing the highest search volume.
For Amazon sellers, keyword research plays a huge role in ensuring you are ranking for the relevant keywords that will improve your product’s visibility on Amazon’s SERP.
Leverage Sonar to help you build a keyword list that takes into consideration the real search queries of Amazon customers, and you will be better equipped to create optimized product listings and PPC campaigns that will convert for you.
