Amazon Go and the Coming Displaced American Worker Class
For years, I’ve been telling my friends and family that every single job which can be replaced by robots or outsourced will be. Every. Single. Job.
With the launch of Amazon Go, that future is more clear than ever. A lot of people can’t see how Tesla’s (and others) driverless car technology will spread and displace every truck driver job in the country… but a grocery store is a much easier scenario to digest.
What will happen to the millions of Americans who rely on their soon to be disrupted jobs?
Just a few of the types of companies that will be included in this disruption:
- Grocery Stores
- Retail Stores
- Coffee Shops
- Restaurants
- Transportation
These represent millions of jobs and workers who will be forced to either find an entirely new line of work or immigrate to another country.
In what would be the greatest irony of the past 100 years, we may see a mass exodus of American workers illegally immigrating to Mexico?—?where disruptive technologies will not penetrate as quickly.
If Trump does indeed “build that wall”, it may cause a very different outcome than was intended.
Only time will tell; and, I don’t have any answers. I do know that the growth of technology will not slow down.
I worry for the coming displaced class… and what worries me the most is that many of them will not see it coming.
