Amazon Employee Spotlight: Deep Dasgupta
Five Q&As with Deep Dasgupta, Sr. Program Manager
Q: What team do you work on at Amazon?
A: "I work in the Amazon Vendor Services team where we work diligently to make our most strategic vendors more successful on Amazon's Retail platform. The work involves managing account relationship, addressing vendor questions, supporting them in reaching business goals, making sure we are getting work done with the highest quality and as fast/faster than our SLA etc. I don't have a specific focus area; my manager lets me work on the most complex pieces of the puzzle, so I can't complain at all."
Q: What's a fun fact about yourself?
A: "I always win the team competition of days wearing shorts to work/year - by a mile. Also, the team knows my knack of consuming free food, and everyone selflessly helps in my quest."
Q: What motivates you?
A: "Solving complex problems. It may sound like a cliche in general, but so true in Amazon. I get to solve so many exciting, and often new problems. Sometimes they are new not just for my team or the company, but for the industry as a whole! The way I see it, I am already spending a lot of time at work, so I better spend it solving complex and new challenges. I am not a big fan of monotony, and at Amazon, you don't much run the risk for that."
Q: What's your favorite thing about Seattle?
A: "The traffic challenges notwithstanding, Seattle is a terrific place to live. Multiple lakes, mountains, beaches, 3 national parks, skiing, Dungeness crab and fresh halibut, the most passionate fans in the NFL (and I am a New England Patriots fan) - what don't we have? We take our two little kids to a different park almost every weekend and haven't run out of them even after 4 years. Winter and spring can be rainy, but do what very other Seattleite does: buy a waterproof coat. And by the way, if you want to be seen as a local, stop carrying an umbrella."
Q: What is one thing you wish you would have known prior to joining Amazon?
A: "How important business writing is in Amazon's culture - especially writing narrative 6 pagers, but staying away from subjective comments."
