Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service

Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service

Amazon Web Services recently introduced the Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). EKS is the hosted solution for the Kubernetes provided by AWS. All existing application’s running on Kubernetes are compatible with the Elastic Kubernetes Service.

Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service automatically manages the availability and scalability of the Kubernetes Master which is responsible for managing the cluster. It is possible to take the advantage of the other AWS services like Networking, VPN, Cloudtrail, IAM and Private link with EKS.

AWS provides the control plane for the EKS service with following features:

Security: It assures the security with IAM Authentication, VPC Support, and Private Link Support.

Automated Version Uploads: In the most hosted solutions like Google Kubernetes Engine, Azure Container Engine etc. AWS EKS also provides the automated updates for the Kubernetes Cluster.

Community Tool Support: EKS supports the community add-ons and tools. These include the KubeDNS to include the support for the DNS. It also supports other add-ons like Kubernetes Dashboard.

Logging: Amazon EKS is integrated with AWS CloudWatch and AWSCloudTrail to track the cluster and its availability.

AWS EKS is highly available, secure and managed hosted solution provided by Amazon Web Services to host the Kubernetes Cluster on AWS. If you are planning to deploy the Kubernetes cluster on AWS then EKS is one of the good options for the hosted solution.
