Amazon and Disruption
For the retail industry, Amazon has meant disruption of the normal way of doing business.
Very few realize, two of the main reasons for Amazon’s success, has been the application of basic sales and retail principles. The process Amazon followed is not any different than what John Wannamaker or R.H. Macy did creating department stores or what Sam Walton did creating Walmart.
Jeff Bezos and Amazon understand principles. In the 1990s, Bezos and Amazon hired executives from Walmart. Bezos gave Amazon employees copies of Walton’s book, “Made in America.”
The retail industry is experiencing disruption. This is due to being so focused on bottom line and forgetting basic retail principle and not focusing on the customer.
