Amazon closes (its own) bookstores

Amazon is getting out of the physical bookstore business. The retail giant is shuttering 65 stores across the U.S. and U.K., including all of its Amazon Books locations, Pop Up shops and 4-star stores, where customers could buy popular Amazon.com products. Amazon's physical stores unit — which includes Whole Foods — has lagged its overall retail business in recent years, logging lower sales in 2021 than in 2018. The company said it “remains committed” to physical retail and is focusing on grocery stores and new concepts, like its recently opened Amazon Style fashion store in Los Angeles.
Amazon opened its first physical bookstore in Seattle in 2015, before expanding across the U.S.
