Amazon Alexa app update brings redesigned homepage and smart home controls

Amazon recently updated its Alexa app and brings features like a revamped devices section and a customizable favourites bar on the home page.

Amazon recently updated Alexa, its popular voice assistant app for mobile devices. The latest update brings a ton of new features alongside a redesigned homepage and makes it easy for users to control their smart home devices.

Favourites on homepage

The updated app lets users customise the Favourites section on the home page, making it easy for them to quickly access the most used devices and features. It also lets you quickly check shopping and to-do lists and recently played music. Some of the supported devices include plugs, switches, lights, locks, cameras and more.

Redesigned Activity section

Amazon also seems to have redesigned the Activity section, which now shows information like timers, upcoming alarms, reminders and more.

Customisable shortcuts bar

The top shortcut bar on the home page can now be customised to user preferences to show information like shopping lists, routines and alarms. It can also show connection devices like how many lights are on and the temperature of various rooms. Since the feature is still rolling out, it might take some time to show up on your device.

Revamped Devices section

The revamped Devices section now lets users search their devices by name and sort them alphabetically, by date added or device type. If you are not interested in the list view, users can also switch to the Map View. It replaces the existing ‘Groups’ function but is currently available to a handful of users in the United States.
