An amazing person supporting an incredible cause
Kim after her finishing her Great Keppel Swim

An amazing person supporting an incredible cause

Throughout the year many of us look to support amazing charities and acts of kindness and outstanding commitment. This year I want to reach out to my network to seek your support for an amazing person that works for an incredible charity that saves lives day in, day out.

I met Kim Miller a couple of years ago as part of my involvement with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation. Blue Dragon’s goal is to end human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Further detail on the amazing work they do is on their website.

Kim represents Blue Dragon in Australia, but to be honest she does a whole lot more than that. Last year Kim swam around Great Keppel Island to raise over $20,000 for Blue Dragon. When I met up with Kim to discuss the swim she spoke of the commitment and the training that she went through to undertake this 20km swim in open water which was full of jelly fish and a few other challenging sea creatures.

Over lunch Kim explained to me her goal in life, which was to swim the English Channel. To her it was just a dream as the cost to do it was prohibitive. The training, conditioning, trial events, accommodation, travel all cost money that Kim did not have. I asked Kim to put together a budget and if I could find the money for her, will she do it. When Kim wiped away the tears the answer was a resounding yes. So now we get to the purpose of this post.

The swim is booked and the boat to support her is locked in for the last week in July 2024, some 15 months away. Kim’s training has started, and she has set up a donation site through the Australian Sports Foundation. Any donations through this site are tax deductable. The spending of all money by Kim is also closely monitored by the Foundation. As you will see on the site Kim is looking to raise $40,000, to get her to Dover and ultimately Calais.

In addition to looking for funds to do the swim, Kim is committed to raise $200,000 for Blue Dragon. This lofty target when raised will save many lives and has the potential to eradicate human trafficking from 10 villages in Vietnam. If you would like to contribute to the charity please go to Kim’s English Channel Swim here.

I am going to Hanoi later this month to spend a few days understanding more about the incredible work that Blue Dragon does and will post more when I return. In the meantime, I hope I can rely on you, or your businesses support to get behind Kim and this amazing challenge. If you would like any more info on the swim, we have prepared a full prospectus which I would be more than happy to share. Please PM me.

Thanks for your support and for reading this rather long post.

Tim! ?? I am so incredibly grateful for your support. Your belief in both me, and Blue Dragon, has put something so far out reach within my grasp! Huge thanks to you and to the people who are supporting me to fulfil both of my dreams - to swim the English Channnel AND personally help to end human trafficking at the same time!
