Dear reader,
Stopping smoking will get you richer as soon as you stop spending all that money on tobacco instead of enriching tobacco corporations as well as our government at the rate of about 25% tax on the price of a pack of cigarettes. Might as well save that money or spend it on healthy food, right?
Governments love tobacco tax money
It should be remembered that, in fact States all over the world were the first to encourage people to smoke.
Here in the US, our government had been busy indeed: during World War II and the following wars (Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan…), American soldiers were sent all around the world always accompanied with large shipments of American cigarettes, which became a symbol of freedom(?)
Thanks to that generosity, cigarette smoking became a global phenomenon. Also thanks to our caring governments, folks all over the world became addicted to smoking.
Doctors advertising tobacco products?
It was also around that time that many doctors were recruited by large tobacco companies to advertise their cigarettes, celebrated for being soothing to the respiratory tract:
However, in the 1980s, governments revised their calculations and realized that the crazy sums of dollars they were receiving through cigarette taxes were also creating at the same time an increase of lung cancer, heart attacks and other early deaths caused by cigarette smoking. I’d like to remind you that, to this day, there is no treatment for lung cancer which results in patients’ death in 85% of cases, with a 5-year time frame.
Starting in the mid-1960s, the causal link between smoking and lung cancer was established with certainty. [2] The cost became too large to ignore and largely exceeding the windfall profits.

9 年I am indeed saddened to hear of a shortened lifespan which may be attributed to tobacco products; without a specific facet of it's diluent to blame. Chef Alain Braux I would be derelict not to mention a critical but overlooked part of the detrimental equation, from the microscopic perspective which are the "Filters". The accumulated intake of the minuscule fibrous particles from the filter tips within the lungs, which cannot be naturally broken down, is hardly on anyone's radar.

9 年I had ancestors who smoked in to their 90's before dying. This of course was before companies started adding their poisons to boost flavour, sales, and death ~

9 年Let's revert to the natural plant tobacco Chef Alain Braux, and wonder why there was never any issues with it's pure state nor the growers. The pure product seems to evade all the bashing and smoking by many through longevity with only an occasional complaint of phlem; should make us aware of the denatured reference point. The Manufacture who claims to have a need to blend with additives beyond human comprehension is a beginning point to rinsing out this detrimental mess. There are several areas in the world that tobacco naturally grows, where with all the pure blending there is NO possible way to get to +500 brands on the 7-11 shelf. To think adding salt peter, chocolate and a myriad of caustic substances is not the issue; for "better flavor, better taste"; by the Manufacture is where the real Health issues begin. Our respiratory system are surprisingly tolerant as our past generations labored over wood fires / stoves with a daily intake and quantity of smoke......just saying. The caring Government were only after a cut in the proceeds then and more now. The other entity doing damage control is also to be mentioned in the tangled web.
