Amazing Aviation Careers

Amazing Aviation Careers

Young people in schools are unaware of the breadth of amazing aviation careers all over the world – we need to show them what they’re missing.

Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAME)

Engineers technically guide and lead teams to perform tasks within the scope of qualifications. They make full use of modern technologies to carry out computer and documentary transactions, taking every opportunity to extend their knowledge and skills base, whilst promoting a safety-first workplace.

To be an LAME , you need to be very self-motivated, with the capability to work as part of a team, plan and prioritise your own workload. Successful applicants will have previous experience working in an aircraft maintenance environment and developed a comprehensive knowledge of procedures and technical documentation.

Aircraft Maintenance Supervisors (AMS)

Aircraft Maintenance Supervisors are responsible for the management of staff, as well as participating and leading aircraft maintenance activities.

This means being responsible for overseeing the completion of both planned and ad hoc maintenance tasks within a shift. This requires effective supervision, allocation of resources, equipment and planning to achieve the tasks in the most efficient way.

Aircraft Maintenance Supervisors use both their technical knowledge and people management skills to meet productivity and cost targets, but also support and implement a culture of continuous improvement, striving to improve performance. Additionally, they encourage their team through coaching, performance management and career development to maximise their opportunities.

It is essential our Aircraft Maintenance Supervisors to have LAME's qualifications, strong interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills, as they need to communicate with all levels of the organisation, and be confident in making technical decisions.

Those who have experience of working under legal regulations in an aircraft maintenance environment, with an understanding of business change processes and how they influence the supervision and management of a team are ideally suited to this role.

Fleet Managers

Individuals in this role are key leaders in Engineering – they develop and motivate teams to be capable in delivering a safe and professional Engineering operation, modelling collaborative working practices. This requires confidence, but also an ability to maintain integrity and engagement.

They need to have a broad business understanding of aviation, and take responsibility to work within Engineering’s integrated processes and systems. This needs to be used to set clear expectations for colleagues, and to effectively communicate and build relationships with trade unions and key stakeholders.

Fleet Managers need to role model the Brand and Leadership Behaviours, to ensure effective cross-functional working, demonstrating resilience and perseverance to achieve required change.

Fleet Managers need to coach, communicate performance metrics and financial targets and identify development for their team.

Technical Service Engineer

Technical Service Engineers are responsible for setting and delivering safety and performance targets for all our aircraft. They engage in continuous improvement of aircraft technical performance, as well as Engineering processes and procedures. They provide essential support to the business on an operational level and also drive the technical change to make our aircraft more reliable.

Depending on the business requirements, they are responsible for management of an aircraft, engine or component operation, as well as technical management. This is done through working with OEM documents, analysing data, benchmarking our technical performance, and developing corrective actions.

However, what they bring to the organisation goes far beyond this. Each Technical Service Engineer is able to project manage and prioritise, they are problem solvers and decision makers. But most importantly, they are team players – with people and communication skills – with every task they undertake, reflecting back to the importance of our customers.
