Amarillo, TX Pulmonolgists views

Kishore Yalamanchili was a colleague of mine when I was with Texas Tech School of Medicine in Amarillo, TX   He is an outstanding Pulmonologist and Intensivist, and he was my Mother’s Pulmonologist (I trust his judgement).  Recently, he has been writing posts on Facebook regarding COVID 19. His treatment regimens and thoughts around this issue are worth checking out.

The economic consequences of this will be felt with increasing intensity day by day. Decreasing disease spread are just one priority but there are actually bigger priorities.

What is happening with the global economy is an unprecedented experiment in the modern age.

There actually is only one priority and that is to maintain liberty/freedom in a functioning civilization which will prevent poverty for billions of people.

There is a concept floating out there that those that want to get people back to work are simply going to get people killed due to spread of disease.

A gentle reminder that billions of people without work for a month or two is a catastrophe of epic proportions never before seen on this planet at this scale. I would assert that no disease in this history of man can compare to potential consequences of total shutdown of the economy for months at time.

Energy production, transportation, manufacturing, education, and food production are luxuries that most of us take for granted until we dont have them. There are heroes in every industry.

Healthcare workers are just a stopgap measure fighting one battle in a larger war that affects everyone in the world.

Try to be considerate of the varying viewpoints and don’t get wrapped into tunnel vision. The political leadership worldwide simply will make tough decisions of which some will be right and some will be wrong.

Diseases will come and go. People are always dying of something every day and in every country.

For me, the United States is about liberty and freedom first and foremost. These values above all others have saved us every single time. These values require extraordinary sacrifice and they mean that practically nobody gets exactly what they want. Do not forget all those generations that have lived and died before us that preserved these values. If you don’t love liberty and freedom, you have plenty of other places in the world to choose from... plane tickets are cheap now I hear.
