AMANO President's Message at the 3rd Annual Convention (#AMANOCON-PH2022) 4th November 2022

As a proud alumnus of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron, I could not be more proud of the Academy's accomplishments than now. MAN Oron has successfully provided over 42 years of high-quality educational opportunities to students alumni who excel in various careers, including Ship Captains, Chief Engineers, Marine Superintendents, Ship and Shipping Services Managers, Policy and lawmakers, Naval and Paramilitary Officers, Community leaders, Lawyers, Entrepreneurs, Teachers/Instructors, Surveyors, and Administrators within and outside the country.

?I am very proud of the transformation that is taking place in our dear Academy under the leadership of Commodore Emmanuel Duja Effedua (Rdt). I am confident that this has been made possible through the support and commitment of the staff of this great institution. Please keep it up.

?Furthermore, I would like to thank the host community of Oron Nation for enabling a safe and conducive environment for the Academy to witness this transformation. It is my prayer that such collaboration will continue.

?It is an honour for me to serve as the 3rd president of the Alumni of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron (AMANO) Association for two years now. With a Board filled with highly reputable and experienced members, I have found guidance and leadership direction. The commitment and sacrifice of the Members of the National Executive?Committee and the Chapter Executive Committee made my two years as AMANO president a journey of learning and progress. I am proud of the excellence exhibited by the entire members on issues we have had the chance to address in our Alma Matter and industry as a whole.

As we assemble to witness our 3rd convention in the beautiful oil-rich city of Portharcourt, tagged AMANOCON-PH2022 ("Leveraging Technology for Greener shipping"), we gather to remind ourselves of the progress we have made and the work before us. This practice energizes us to renew our commitment to our alma mater and the industry.

The theme "Leveraging Technology for Greener Shipping" allows us to discuss technologies we can leverage to achieve greener shipping in our coastal and international trade on both short- and long-term goals. I am particularly excited that AMANO is creating the platform needed for Nigeria to discuss shipping technology transition in line with the World Maritime Organization and the United Nations' agenda for greener shipping and sustainable developments.

?As we also plan to elect our leaders to lead us into another term of 2 years, I charge all contestants to be committed to this selfless service. I equally charge all members to elect competent leaders with what it takes to provide the support needed by our young association.

Joining the Alumni encourages continued success for our student cadets, graduates and support for the Academy. I would like to use this opportunity to charge us to reach out and connect with all graduates of this great institution, no matter where they may be in this part of our great journey.

Please continue to visit us on the website and Facebook for information on future Alumni activities. You can do this by taking advantage of our recently launched interactive and analytic website www.alumniofman.com which has features that enable everyone to manage their profiles and engage with one another.

?I wish us all a successful convention.

Thank you

Emmanuel Maiguwa Gankino
