Am I up for the Year Ahead?

Am I up for the Year Ahead?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about energy management.

Perhaps because I’m getting to an age where the reserves of energy don’t feel as bottomless as they used to.

I was reminded of this fact towards the end of last year when I plumbed the depths of my reserves for the first time in some years. Let me tell you, the event did not pass by without me noticing!

Lately I’ve been having many energy-based conversations with people of all ages, stages and circumstances. One regular subject is our modern world as a rich source of stress and anxiety and a constant drain on our energy reserves.

Most business owners, despite having their heart and soul committed to their enterprise, have times when everything seems to be on top of them.

And when troubles spill over into your personal life and your health also gets a bit dodgy, it can feel like it might just be time to give the whole game away.

Of course, most successful business owners are pretty good at picking themselves up and finding a way to move forward again.

The trick when these times happen, is to recognise when the resilience you’ve built up through hard experience is your friend and when it’s your enemy.

There are times when taking the time to reevaluate your Why, What and How is the best thing you will ever do for you and your business (and don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to understand more about this process!)

You may be questioning whether you’re prepared to put your heart and soul into the year ahead (think about how many times you say “have to” rather than “get to” when you consider your To Do list). Too much negative energy is a constant drain on performance, just like a battery going flat.

As leaders, we owe it to ourselves and our people to get out of our own head and be ahead of the game.

I get where you’re coming from, Peter. If you’re not careful waking up in the morning can go from, “Right, let’s get stuck into this” to “Oh, I’ve got to do this.” Whenever I feel this coming on I go I visit my sons, build Lego with my grandsons and read them stories. Works every time.
