Am I an oddball?

Am I an oddball?

I’ve always thrived in the spaces most people ignore—the markets that seem too weird, too risky, too early. The ones where people shake their heads and say, “This sucks,” “Who would even do that?” or “That will never work.” Like Jeff Bezos once said: “You have to be willing to be misunderstood if you’re going to innovate or be successful.”

And I love it.

I live for the moment when those same doubters start to shift. When “That’s impossible” turns into “This is incredible.” When skepticism morphs into FOMO. When the very people who dismissed the idea are now asking, “Can I invest?”

But here’s the twist: by the time everyone jumps in—when the market finally catches up to my vision—I’m already on my way out.

It’s not because I don’t believe in what I built. It’s because something changes when an industry gets flooded. The noise levels rise, the opportunists arrive, and suddenly, the magic of the early days fades. It starts to feel less like innovation and more like a predictable playbook. Right now, entrepreneurship through acquisition is experiencing that very shift, hence one of the reasons for selling BuyAndSellABusiness.com.

And that’s when I start looking for the next undiscovered thing.

I’ve wrestled with this pattern for years. Is it a strength? A flaw? A restless obsession with being early? I don’t know. But I do know I’m not alone. There’s a certain kind of builder who thrives on the frontier, who finds energy in proving the world wrong, only to feel disconnected once the world agrees.

If this resonates with you, leave a comment. What drives you—the chase, the validation, or something else entirely? And what do you do when the thing you loved becomes too big, too mainstream, too…normal?

Let’s continue,

PS: As I navigate my next chapter, I’ve been approached about advisory and board roles—an interesting opportunity to contribute in new ways. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to connect to chat more about this.
