Am I Just Burned Out Or Is It Time To Reinvent My Career? 4 Questions To Help You Find Out. John Page Burton

As a career reinvention coach, the majority of my clients hire me because they desire to change careers, start a business or they want to change companies but stay within their industry. When people feel unsettled and are considering a career reinvention, I encourage them to explore the 4 questions below in order to check their temperature and get a true read on where they currently reside in their professional life. Let's take a look at these 4 key questions.

Am I Just Burned Out Or Am I Ready To Make A Change? It surprises me just how many people suffer from burnout. I'm equally surprised that each year, an estimated 67% of American workers fail to use all of their allotted vacation time? Unplugging from work is crucial for our mental and emotional well-being. If after a few days away from the office you still feel burned out, it's something you would be well served to take a look at.?It may be a sign that it's time to start moving toward something that is more professionally compelling.?

Where Do I Desire To Be 5 Years From Now??Are There Sufficient Growth Opportunities In My Current Company??These are two great questions to ask yourself. For many of my clients, the answer is no. If your answer is no, it's time to start looking for a different opportunity, one that will provide you with opportunities to stretch and grow. Far too many people are staying in dead end jobs out of a fear of the unknown or a sense of obligation. Neither of these are good reasons to stay stuck.

Is My Current Company Culture Bringing Out the Best In Me? A company's culture can make or break your work experience. I routinely hear stories about toxic bosses and hostile work environments. Toxic bosses tend to create toxic work environments. If you are currently working for a company that is emotionally draining or demoralizing, it's time to consider making a move. If you are in a fear-based work environment, it's time to honor yourself and look for a more uplifting workplace. Each week, you spend 40 hours or more at work, if you don't enjoy where you work, move, you're not a tree.??

Does My Current Position Support My Overall Lifestyle? One thing we learned during the pandemic is that there is more than one way to do our work. Work life balance matters. During the pandemic, many people finally found a true sense of work life balance and they loved it! Also, at most companies, work productivity and work quality improved in measurable ways. For example, I had a client who was ecstatic that she could throw in a load of laundry or go grocery shopping over her lunch hour. She also liked that she could step into her office after the kids went to sleep and finish her day. This gave her more time on the weekends to focus on family activities. Let's be clear, it shouldn't take a pandemic for employers to understand that their employees have a life outside of work. If your company doesn't honor your personal life, then it's probably time to find a company that does.
