Am I going to die soon too?

March 17th 1989 was a Friday. I had enjoyed an "off-duty" day walking around my local market in the rare warm spring sunshine.

By 10pm you will see me sitting with my little swollen feet up next to my husband in our cosy lounge. The trim phone rings in the hallway. (remember those days?)

"I'll get it, you stay there and rest"

........... "oh no Bill, That's such a shock, I am so sorry.... are you OK do you have anyone with you?"

This was the moment that my father called us to say that my Mum had died very suddenly, probably from a massive heart attack.

She was just 56 years old.

I was 28 and 30 weeks pregnant with our first child.

THIS was the moment that changed my life forever and was to determine my life-path now.

You see, by the time I was in my 50's my health was at a low ebb.... and I was almost a carbon copy of my Mum. I was shocked into action by recognising I was taking things for granted and looking after everyone else but ME by this question.... "Gill have you had any thoughts of harming yourself?"

"In this life, you can either choose to be a good example or a horrible warning" Catherine Aird

Although my ill-health was similar in many ways to my Mum, the cause of the stress we both succumbed to was different. However, the physical effects meant that if I didn't address my own circumstances - which was actually work-place stress, I, like my dear Mum, would end up being a "horrible warning" for my children too.

Instead, I decided I wanted to be "the good example" and take responsibility for getting well and staying well.

My path has led me to helping busy women, particularly Mum's who want to make the most of their wisdom years, and look and feel 10 years younger. I create exclusive health and wellbeing retreats and events that are deigned to allow space to for women to find themselves and to make meaningful connections with other like-minded souls.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to help women live the life they deserve.

A very powerful story! So sad you lost your mum so young, and are such a crucial time. It’s wonderful you are using your experience for the good now.
