Am I Anxious? Yes.

Am I Anxious? Yes.

This morning, as I began my reading in Chuck Swindoll’s book titled, Jesus: The Greatest Life of All and one of the subsections of chapter 17 is titled The Road to Disappointment, which is about two people who were walking away from Jerusalem discussing the crucifixion of Jesus.

They were deeply disheartened that Jesus whom they had believed was the Messiah had died and his body was now missing from the tomb he was buried in just 3 days earlier.

Yet, the man whom had met them on the road to Emmaus was the risen Lord, but the two walking on the road were not able to realize that it was Him.

The passage from Luke 24:19-21 describes their disappointment and how this unknown and unrecognized person didn’t know about what had just happened.

It was as if he was clueless to the massive commotion and noise in the city, as Jesus had been led through the city of Jerusalem, to Golgotha where he was crucified.

“And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.?But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.” Luke 24:19-21

Then I read this from Chuck’s book,

“Maybe you’re suffering that difficult, disillusioning situation right now. If so, you have the opportunity to experience abundance like no other time in your life.”

The two people walking on the road who had unknowingly encountered Jesus were disappointed that their hopes in the Messiah hadn’t been realized, but they just had to wait a little longer to realize with their own eyes that He had indeed risen from the grave.

Which led me to this situation that I am facing.

In a few weeks time, we’ll be closing on our house, but what has me wondering, worried really if our dream is going to be fulfilled is the amount of money needed for closing costs. I hadn’t anticipated $10,000 in closing costs either and from where we are to what’s needed is quite a gap to fill.?

As I sat here reading this chapter, I was quickly reminded by the Holy Spirit these words from Philippians 4:6,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave there are no promises of God. There are no provisions to meet anyone’s needs. There is nothing.?

So, I’m reminded that just as Jesus overcame death, hell and the grave to the glory of God, there isn’t a circumstance in my life, or yours that can’t be overcome as well.?

How the Lord does it is not mine to figure out, but to pray and trust God that His word will be fulfilled just as it is written.?

Whatever has you stressed, distressed, or in a disillusioned situation right now, return your heart and focus on the Lord Jesus Christ, remember these words from 1 Peter 5:7,

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Will it be easy? No

Am I anxious about all of this? Yes.

Will it be worth it to remain faithful and obedient to God, to wait and see what only He can do? Absolutely.?

I hope to remind myself of these words from Martin Luther, “Pray and let God worry.”

It's all I can do.
