Alzheimer’s Memory Walk: Norah Ryan, Managing Director at Barrow Training

Barrow Consultancy & Training , led by Managing Director Norah Ryan has been a key Charity Partner of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) for many years. In this article, we delve into Norah's background, her connection to the cause, and her thoughts on why Barrow Training chose to partner with The ASI. We also explore the significance of Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and Norah's hopes for the future of this partnership.

Norah Ryan assumed the role of Managing Director at Barrow Consultancy & Training in July 2021, taking over the reins from the previous owners, Marian and Joe Manning. Her journey to this leadership position is not just about managing a business but also about making a difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

For Norah, the choice of partnering with The ASI as a charity partner was deeply personal. She shared, "We at Barrow like to choose a charity partner that is close to our hearts." In her case, the connection to Alzheimer's is poignant. "On a personal level, two of my aunts were diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and it was very difficult for all the family when we saw our loved ones who no longer remembered us."?

One of the standout events in the partnership between Barrow and The ASI is Alzheimer's Memory Walk which raises funds and awareness for people living with dementia, and their carers. What makes the event special to Norah? "It's such a lovely community-spirited day to remember those who have passed away and for families, friends, and loved ones of people with this condition to talk, laugh, walk, and discuss their own experience," she said.

Memory Walk takes place on September 24th, and Norah and her team will be walking in Oak Park, Carlow town. Norah will be walking for: "Family members who have passed away and are still missed very dearly."?

Norah's aspirations for the partnership between Barrow and ASI are clear: "To continue in some small way to support and highlight the work of The ASI and the help and comfort they bring to so many families." This commitment reflects Barrow's dedication to making a meaningful impact on Alzheimer's awareness and support.

As a person who appreciates the therapeutic power of a good walk, Norah shared her favourite place to walk: "Living in Carlow, we are blessed to have lovely walks along the Barrow Track, which is peaceful and always popular with walkers."?

In terms of future walks, Norah is dreaming big. "The Camino, without a doubt, would love to do a stage or stages at some future date," she said. The Camino's long, winding paths are emblematic of life's journey, much like the Memory Walk itself.

Norah Ryan's journey from taking the helm at Barrow Consultancy & Training to her personal connection to Alzheimer's and the partnership with The ASI is an inspiring example of how businesses can choose to make a positive impact. Let’s all continue to build Alzheimer's awareness and support , one step at a time.
