On Dr.Chand's 80th Birthday.

A combination of a history of infections and exposure to traffic-related air pollution increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by 177% in adults aged 60 to 75 years, according to data from approximately 100,000 individuals.

Based on Dr. Chand’s 75 years of keen observations, Alzheimer’s disease is influenced by 12 to 24 risk factors or comorbidities. These include:

  • Lifestyle and Health Factors: Stress, dehydration, constipation, visceral obesity in middle-aged individuals, insulin resistance, hypertension, and sedentary lifestyle etc
  • Environmental Factors: Exposure to pollution, certain cookware materials, and cosmetics.
  • Behavioral and Dietary Factors: Addictive behaviors such as ultra-processed foods, food additives, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, soda, and food addiction and social Media rage and anger and beyond;
  • Biological Changes: Dysbiosis, infection, depression, and menopausal changes.

These risk factors contribute to chronic neuroinflammation and act in additive or synergistic ways, significantly increasing the likelihood of developing age-related chronic illnesses, including dementia.

  • Key Finding: A 177% increased risk of AD is associated with a combination of infections and traffic-related air pollution, particularly in adults aged 60-75.
  • Dr. Chand explains the Potential Mechanism:?A history of infections or dysbiosis can disrupt the blood-brain barrier, allowing harmful agents to reach the central nervous system and trigger neuroinflammation. Chronic exposure to air pollutants (e.g., delicate particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, CO, cooking gas, sewer gas leak, etc.), mold, and dust from?HVAC systems exacerbate neuroinflammation.
  • Identification and mitigation of these comorbidities and risk factors is the first and foremost importance for seeking holistic approaches to prevent MCI, AD, and other chronic illnesses of the gut, joints, brain, body, etc.
