alwaysAI Insider, vol. 25: 2024 is The Year of Vision

Happy New Year, Insiders! Welcome back.

A new year is always exciting – full of potential and opportunity – but we are especially energized at the start of this year. AI generated so much momentum last year, we can't wait to see what's in store for 2024.?

  • ?? Jump starting the 2024 AI enthusiasm train is this week’s Consumer Electronics Show. CES has always been an opportunity to showcase some flashy-if-not-exactly-useful gadgets but this year they’re likely to be infused with AI. The message seems to be: any AI is good AI. Robotic “AI Infused” shoes anyone????
  • ?? Microsoft has made its first significant change to its keyboard in nearly 30 years by adding a new AI button to launch Copilot, a ChatGPT-like chatbot that can answer questions or even take actions inside Windows. The move appears to be another step towards AI agents that will serve as virtual assistants arranging travel details and dinner reservations, and make search engines (as we know them) obsolete.?

What’s exciting about 2024 is not that AI continues to be a buzzword, but that people are asking tough questions about the purpose, practicality, and limitations of AI.?

  • ?? Most notably, the New York Times lawsuit against Open AI, arguably the biggest AI news of 2024 (thus far), raises serious questions about copyright infringement, fair use, and the basic structure of how LLMs are trained.? The case is complex but among their complaints, the Times argues ChatGPT can regurgitate their content word for word. The LLM is not producing transformative work. Open AI has long held the position that training on large sets of public works falls under “fair use” and issued a detailed response to the lawsuit maintaining their position. Dig deeper to read about the prior failed negotiations between the two companies, the continued problem of hallucinations, and why the case will likely get settled out of court to avoid having to answer difficult questions.?For this writer, the case raises existential questions about the art of the written word. I’ve beat the bot this week, but how soon before AI masters creativity??For this AI marketer, it makes me glad I work in Vision AI where we focus on showing reality to practically improve business operations.?

The NYT lawsuit suggests AI will be under more scrutiny in 2024. We’re here for it.?

At alwaysAI, we’re ready to move beyond the AI hype and dive into the details of how Vision AI is transforming industries with real-time, actionable data. We’re showing clients exactly where they are losing money with unnecessary delays and inefficiencies. We’re showing them exactly how much output they are producing at every step of their operations.?

We’re so excited by the potential magnitude of computer vision, we are expanding into new industries. Below you will find our new Solutions Suites for energy, mining, logistics, and warehousing.?

alwaysAI is not just another AI company. Our dedicated team of world-class, computer vision experts has spent years making the real-time, visual insights of computer vision accessible and we’re ready to deliver those solutions to you. We can’t wait to work together to make 2024 your most profitable year ever.?

As for me, I’ll be taking inspiration from Willis Gibson (“Blue Scuti") who this week shattered expectations about human capabilities when he beat Tetris. Sure AI can write, but so can the humans!

How factories are deploying AI on production lines

From the BBC: "Computer vision, which involves training machines to recognise objects in images and video, is another type of AI being used across some of the world's factories to detect product defects at-scale.

The flurry of items moving along conveyor belts and through sorting machines in factories mean minuscule defects in products can easily be missed."
