Always start with a project
10 years Sourcing Summit October 2023 - share my personal story and showed a lot of automations.

Always start with a project

Yes, this seems so obvious. However, I have trained 400+ companies, and on a rare occasion, I have found a small number of companies who have never worked with projects. This is like organizing an extensive library without a cataloging system.

This is like organizing an extensive library without a cataloging system.

Once, I have asked the question how can you find your candidates? O simple, she said, I look them up in the inbox. O-M-G.

So, we start with the basics. If you begin a new sourcing assignment. Always start with a new project—a clean slate.

The same tips are for LinkedIn Recruiter and LinkedIn Recruiter Lite.

Three useful tips:

  1. Use date: YYMM - example 2312. A couple of benefits: you know how old your project is (and I know there is a creation date), you can search for year and/or month, and if you find a candidate with a project attached to this, you can also see how old this project is.
  2. Use a Unique Marker: Initials of a hiring manager, department, vacancy ID number, or client name—anything for you to find this project. And end with the job title.
  3. You can use the description. This is optional. Some examples: use this for collaboration purposes. A small text, a link to a vacancy, a link to a Google Drive or OneDrive. This text can't be searched.

You can add details like Job title, Location, and Seniority level. This is optional.

Another tip:

Make this project visible to: Public. So other team members can also benefit from this after a couple of months or even years. If you have a highly sensitive project, then set it to private.

Last tip:

Most people forget this. If you are done with a project, archive the project. 99% of all the customers I am training always have hundreds or thousands of old projects open. Always archive it.

For most of you, this should be easy peasy. This search for the PHP developer in Sydney will be the search I will use for the newsletters. Every time, another level, filter, or other tip will be revealed, from essential to in-depth nitty-gritty.
