Always let your light shine
The wonders of a warm summer night

Always let your light shine

Friday night in Wisconsin it was very warm. We were outside in our backyard enjoying the pool and a bonfire. I looked into the woods behind my house and saw a few fireflies. I continue to be fascinated by them. We live very close to the Carpenter Nature Center which is about a mile from my home. There is a field with mowed paths and birdhouses and beautiful wild flowers. I have driven past on many summer nights only to be mesmerized by the soft blinking of the fireflies. I had a feeling this night would be one for the books. We had passed by on Wednesday night after a boat ride and the field was blinking with a multitude of them. So, 11pm on Friday night I hopped in my car and drove over to see if my hunch was right. It is a scene I will not soon forget. The entire field was twinkling and blinking like tens of thousands of tiny paparazzi; albeit in the form of these cute little magical beetles. Fireflies fill my heart with joy. Seeing them each summer brings back childhood memories of catching them in mason jars and laying under the dark sky watching for shooting stars. The experience of seeing fireflies is something that gradually fades from my memory until that first summer night when they reemerge and I remember how much they make me smile. I wondered why and if there was any significance to this feeling I experience every summer. So of course, off to Google I went. I found a lot of content, but this is what clicked with me. Fireflies remind us that we've got to let our light shine to be seen and attract the good stuff we desire in our lives. The symbolic meaning of the firefly of course deals with light, illumination and the like.” What perfect timing for the start of a new quarter! Have a terrific day, a fantastic holiday weekend and an amazing quarter and always…let your light shine!
