There is always the first time...

There is always the first time...

The first time for anything still gives me butterflies. If it didn't then I'd be worried. It's the butterflies that give me clarity and diligence and help me to be hyper tuned in.

With a 30 year career in facilitating, it's not the getting up the front that gives the butterflies it's the delivering of brand new content for the very first time. I want everything to land well, I want the content to resonate and bring about change and it's the first time that is the testing ground.

I was 25 when I started facilitating and it was the same back then as it is today for the first time, nothing has changed. Every fibre of my body is attentive as I prepare, re read, talk it out loud and dress myself appropriately for the audience.

As I write this I'm preparing for 2 first times this week, while I have been doing other things for work the "new content" is being prepared for both consciously and unconsciously, I love this about the brain. Even when I'm not particularly focusing on my preparation my Reticular Activating System is; my subconscious is still on alert and it's noticing things and bringing them to my attention. These noticing gifts bring me back to my office so I can add, edit or delete content.

I have spent the last couple of weeks discussing the new topics and sharing them with other coaches, enjoying the opportunity to gain their perspectives and hear their stories. It always feels like sacred ground and I'm so grateful for those in my network who are willing to share with me, as I will with them when they want my perspective.

This is vulnerability as a coach. I'm breaking new ground and in order to do this well I need to connect with those who have broken this ground before. The willingness to be open about "new ground" means that my journey has been shortened because of the contribution of those who know the ground.

Tonight's presentation will be the culmination of weeks of preparation, it will be all that I want it to be because I am prepared, I am ready and I am excited.

Thank you Anne Cullen for your time and thank you Prajesh Chhanabhai for your connection with Victoria Gray .

You and Craig sure worked hard, it was truly amazing and fantastic watching your nursery grow. How many Rhododendrons do you have in your present garden. Nothing was impossible for your and your family. Congratulations you’ve truly done well
