On May 2017 I received a call from my good friend, which kind of shocked me & I felt extremely sad… “Yeo, I’m going for my 2nd operation”.

Steven was my good friend, supporting client & golf buddy. We knew each other since our army days. He is a strong believer in insurance & a very supportive friend.

I helped him with his critical illness claim from his 1st heart operation and he seemed perfectly fine to me after the operation.

3 months later due to heart valve infection, Steven was hospitalized once again & this time his condition did not seem too good for him. I visited him almost every alternate day as my office is just nearby the hospital.

One day, during one of my regular visits, Steven suddenly said something to me, which I can still vividly remember until today…”Yeo, thanks for ‘forcing me’ to buy insurance all these while, now I can die peacefully.” At that moment I felt very sad & didn’t know how to react. All I did was just tapped him on his shoulder & told him everything was going to be ok.

But things didn’t turn out ok & Steven passed away during the 3rd operation, which was also his final operation & he never woke up after that.

Due to Steven’s prudent financial management and proper financial planning, his daughter is now pursuing her dream University in Australia and his wife can afford to fly there every 3 months to visit their daughter prior to the Covid-19 outbreak.

As a Financial Planner, I am proud of my profession that I can make a positive difference to his family, even though he is no longer around.

I always believe that as parents we don’t get our children’s permission to bring them into this world, but it is our responsibility to keep them safe and keep their dreams alive. I am happy that I can help Steven to keep his daughter’s dream alive.
