Alumni Voices: Ahmed Shares His Experience Growing His Professional Skill Sets
As a recent Physics graduate from Arizona State University, Ahmed began his early career in the Engineering field. He pursued his interest by working with an Australia-based organization called Global Empowers as an Engineering intern for three months. Global Empowers Organisation works on developing water solution sustainability projects for the Sub-Saharan region in Africa; which gave Ahmed first-hand experience in engineering and architect design.?
During his internship, Ahmed worked closely with a group of his peers along with the founder of Global Empowers to develop and improve project design plans for water filter stations to be based in Zimbabwe. For Ahmed, a global workspace as a new engineer intern gave him an opportunity to use critical thinking, develop new skills in architecture design, and improve his communication abilities. Prior to his internship, Ahmed had minimal experience working with architect design programs, however was quickly supported by his supervisor and gained knowledge to utilise the program functions.
Ahmed's willingness to learn a new platform allowed him to gain valuable insights about architecture and engineering such as drawings, measurements, and equations to contribute improvements to the project design plans.?
One of Ahmed's biggest takeaways was to?take the initiative to present data with his opinions and suggestions to his team and supervisor for the benefits to improve the project design. A key moment for Ahmed was him providing a different perspective to his supervisor which impacted the execution of the water filter development. Ahmed received praise from his supervisor for his critical thinking skills and communication abilities. Overall, Ahmed’s engineering internship experience has had a great impact on expanding his professional communication skills thus far.
Currently, Ahmed works as a Science Teaching Assistant at Oxford Saudi Flight Academy and plans to further his education with a Masters in Engineering at KAUST University located in Saudi Arabia. The MISK Virtual Internships program support has greatly impacted Ahmed's progress in his career and he greatly values the relationships he gained with his supervisor and Intern coach during the program. We thank Ahmed for sharing his story with us and wish him well in all his future endeavors.?
We value your dedication, passion and service as Global Empowers we are super proud of you.
