Alumni Spotlight: Patrick Clanton, ‘14

If our February NYC alumni spotlight looks familiar, it might be because he’s currently starring on Moulin Rouge! Patrick Clanton is a 2014 graduate with a BFA in Music Theatre. Learn more about his path to Broadway below.

What neighborhood do you live in??Astoria, Queens

Favorite place in the city? My apartment

What did you do immediately post grad? I performed in the second national tour of SISTER ACT. We played across the U.S. and had a three week run in Tokyo, Japan.

What do you do now? I’m performing in the ensemble of MOULIN ROUGE! on Broadway, understudying the roles of Harold Zidler and Toulouse-Lautrec.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to make a career on Broadway?

Broadway is just a street. If you can make a career performing anywhere, you are a success. Broadway isn’t the end all be all. If your dream is to be on Broadway, go for it, but don’t let your dream keep you from other great opportunities.

How has Elon alumni helped throughout your career? I’ve received audition opportunities through recommendations from Elon alumni and my former professors. I’ve also slept on many couches in the city thanks to some generous alumni!

Can you tell us about about Behind the Magic? Behind The Magic is a YouTube channel I started during the start of the pandemic. I create mini-documentaries about the history and creation of popular Broadway shows. The channel has amassed over 10,000 subscribers as of this writing.

Are you hiring at all? MOULIN ROUGE! is always looking for new talent, so keep an eye out for auditions. They also post job openings for offstage roles on the show’s Instagram page, @moulinrougebway.
