Alumni Spotlight: Logan Anderson
Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity - Gamma Chapter
Gamma Chapter - University of Nebraska
Meet one of our past assistant rush chairman, treasurer, and rush chairman, Logan Anderson !
What do you currently do for work?
This summer I am working in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery office at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine. I work with Dr. Sean McGarry assisting him with his research and other various projects. Over the past year, I got my M.S. in Medical Anatomy at UNMC and will start medical school at UNMC this August.
Why did you choose AGS?
I chose AGS in part because the members that I knew when I was looking to join a fraternity held leadership positions around campus and within the organizations I interacted with while in high school. The final piece of the puzzle was how welcoming the members were during my rush progress. I felt that AGS was made up of men who wanted the best for me and would challenge me to grow during my time at UNL.
Being a part of AGS meant being a part of something bigger than myself. Although the didactic instruction I participated in at UNL was important in me being where I am today, the social and emotional learning I experienced as a member of AGS has been a far greater factor in getting me to where I am today. I am grateful for the active and alumni members who played a part in that growth, and I hope I had a similar impact on the members I interacted with during my time in AGS.
Did you have any officer positions during your time?
While in AGS I served in the roles of assistant rush chairman, treasurer, and finally rush chairman.

What were some of the highlights of your time in AGS?
Meeting great people and forming friendships has been the biggest highlight of my time in AGS. Other more specific examples include being a big brother, working as rush chairman with Alex Jarecke while meeting so many great young men and their families that summer, and my exec board experiences where I was able to interact with alumni and work with other exec members to make difficult decisions.
What impacts did being in the fraternity have on your personal and professional development?
Andrew Carnegie wanted his epitaph to read “Here lies a man who knew how to enlist in his service better men than himself.” This was the mindset I tried to embrace during my time in AGS. I cannot count the number of times where I sought advice from a connection I made through AGS, the access to people who are willing to help you succeed is what truly makes AGS unique. The most recent example of this has been the help I received from Dr. Shawn Semin and Dr. Jeff Jacobs as I worked to be a competitive applicant to medical school. As well as learning more about the application process and day-to-day of medical school from more recent alumnus Cole Bures.
What was your favorite fraternity event and why?
The road trips to rush events, spring break trips, ski trips, and formals are some of my fondest memories from my time in AGS. Although the events themselves are fun. I still laugh at the random conversations and events that took place on the way to those events. They are a great reminder that joy is found in the little things while being surrounded by your friends.
Reflecting back, how did the fraternity mold you into the man you are today?
As I mentioned above the people of AGS are what make it a special organization. Being surrounded by so many great role models who I could observe every day and try to emulate what they were doing allowed me to grow into the person I am today. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that some of the younger members of AGS have just as much to offer as the older members.
What advice would you give to current fraternity members?
Your experience in AGS is what you make of it. Challenge yourself, you have no idea of what you are capable of until you try. Be a sponge, learn as much as you can from the people around you, and surround yourself with people who are going to make you a better person.
