Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Zongqi Guo Joins the University of South Florida as Assistant Professor
Mechanical Engineering at UT Dallas
Engineer Your Passion, Design Our Future!
We are delighted to share that Dr. Zongqi Guo, a distinguished alumnus of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UT Dallas, has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida, beginning in Fall 2024.
Before joining USF, Dr. Guo served as a postdoctoral associate under Professor John Bischof’s group at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. He earned his PhD in 2021 from UT Dallas under the mentorship of Professor Xianming (Simon) Dai, where his research focused on vitrification-based cryopreservation of organisms and cells.
Dr. Guo’s research interests span a wide range, including: Vitrification-based cryopreservation (coral larvae, Drosophila embryos, pancreatic islets, and cell spheroids), Heat transfer (boiling and condensation), Surface modification, Micro/nanofabrication.
He has published in high-impact journals such as Advanced Science, Joule, PNAS, and AFM. Additionally, he has been awarded three grants from the NSF ERC ATP-Bio, supporting his groundbreaking work on developing thermally conductive platforms for scalable cryopreservation systems.
As he embarks on his new journey at USF, Dr. Guo will continue pushing the frontiers of vitrification-based cryopreservation, particularly focusing on biomedical and biodiversity applications.
Congratulations to Dr. Zongqi Guo on this significant achievement! We look forward to following your continued success and the impact of your research.
