Welcome to our July issue

Since attending the Educate Plus Reignite Conference in June in Adelaide SA as a guest speaker and exhibitor, I've had the chance to reflect on what was a wonderful event.

For me, the greatest takeaway from Reignite was how important it is for all advancement professionals to continue to share their industry experiences with each other at every opportunity, including our challenges, our wins, our losses, and big ideas. By doing so, our profession only gets better at what we do, creating a greater sense of professional comradery in the process, and importantly strengthening our case for support with education leaders who usually hold the program purse strings.

For this reason our continuing challenge as professionals is to find the time in our hectic schedules to attend and contribute to events like Reignite and help nurture and promote vital industry discussion and professional development.

So my question to all advancement professionals is - are you up for the challenge? I know I am!

Major events planning - do you know your strategic why?

Knowing your why is numero uno with any major event planning! Way before you even think about creating that event invitation or booking a venue, you need to carefully think about and know your strategic event why.

You can do this by addressing five key questions about your proposed event:

  1. Why are you holding the event?
  2. How will it help achieve the goals of your organisation?
  3. How will you measure success?
  4. What is the expected ROI - in REAL terms?
  5. Who is your target audience and why would they attend the event?

If you get this strategic positioning articulated right from the start of your planning, it sets up everything else in terms of the ‘how’ for your events and keeps you firmly on track to reach your goals.
