Alternative Energy Water Skid Project
At James Controls, our engineers constantly challenge themselves; looking to the future of alternative energy to continuously satisfy our clients' needs. In a recent project, the client was seeking engineering support services to transition to a hybrid power source for their stock of pump skids. The client's existing inventory of pump skids was fully reliant on diesel fuel for power. The client originally developed a hybrid system, reducing the overall need for diesel fuel. The hybrid would alternate the power source based on load and other input parameters. By implementing a hybrid-powered system, the client could reduce overall emissions by more efficiently loading the diesel part of the system.
The client’s engineering team required outside expertise as troubleshooting became more taxing alongside daily operations at the client’s facility. James Controls was able to provide support services as our systems engineering team had a longstanding relationship with the client’s in-house engineering personnel.
Throughout the 4 month continuous improvement cycle period, our systems engineer altered the existing PLC program to improve the functionality and efficiency of the system. In addition to modifying the power system, monitoring instrumentation was added to the skids to aid technicians in troubleshooting during service calls.
