Which government agencies should be "facilitating" the transition to Electric mobility solutions and energy independence. The answer takes on many dimensions. The obvious two at the top of the list, DOT and DOE everyone is familiar with. Other entities often departments within another office may only be recognized by industry insiders FMVSS is the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and NHSTA National Highway Safety and Transportation Administration is the "mothership" for those activities... Both part of the DOT.
So breaking their roles and responsibilities into digestible bits, FMVSS makes sure the cares are meeting certain safety standards. NHSTA has much broader reach as the mother agency, including highway construction standards primarily Interstates. They track, record, archive and, analyze road safety data reports to determine how to improve the safety / reliability of travel across our nation.
Who else should be involved... the USGBC. Perhaps you feel the FERC should take a lead role.
I will give y'all a minute to look those two up...

Now, when asked what Lobbyists do... you will not get a good response from a lot of folks. However I would submit this for your consideration. Elected officials should not be expected to "know it all" lobbyists can be the voice of positive change for a new future within our reach but not yet recognized by folks not involved with developing the "mechanisms of a better tomorrow"
I feel as though many other obvious agencies FAA FCC should also be acknowledged for the equity it holds in discussing how we regulate a better tomorrow! And that aspect alone (all of the alphabet soup each requiring a unique message / messenger) should be enough for anyone to recognize the investment of time and research that lobbyists devote to researching the facts associated to the advancements our government should regulating. Europe and China are ahead of us NOW regarding the tracking and regulations of the materials used in and the production of storage batteries!
When talking about mobility and our nations energy production / consumption there are many layers of complexity and thousands of hours of work that go into a comprehensive strategy that someone could lobby for... BUT this is a moment and chance for the USA to seize the initiative in this global transition with the right regulations we can make our world a place safe from the threat of fire, polluted air, and energy shortages. America became the greatest nation in the world by democratizing "the good life". Let's be responsible and do this right!

2 个月Ron Gillingham - I read this article when it was posted a few weeks ago. Didn't really know how to respond to it, but over time, have digested it and have come to the recognition that lobbyists - as you astutely point out - can be an asset to legislators who simply cannot understand the technologies rushing at them as if a tidal wave. At Automation Alley, we host roundtable discussions on Mobility and ICE-EV transitions, among other topics. I'd like to learn more about your thoughts - perhaps over lunch in the new year - and maybe socialize those ideas with industry thought-leaders who attend. As a fellow conspirator in all things mobility throughout our respective careers, I look forward to learning your ideas on this.
