Aloha, Summer Activities: Five Ways to Find Joy During Back-to-School Season

In the Hawaiian language, Aloha can mean hello or goodbye. It also means love and affection. I can’t think of a better word to use when describing the mixed emotions many of us feel time of year. Although summer doesn’t officially end until September 22, school has already started, summer vacation season is over and soon we’ll start feeling the cool breezes of autumn. Hawaii Fluid Art is the perfect place to ease the transition to your school year routine -- whether for yourself, your family or your workplace team.

Before we get into the list, I want you to think back to your happiest back-to-school memories. Was it the excitement of shopping for brand new clothes and the latest cool shoes? Or, was it the unmistakable smell of a newly opened box of crayons? (I loved the box of 64 colors with the built--in pencil sharpener!) Or was it the anticipation of meeting new teachers and making new friends? Whatever motivated you to get up and ready for the first day of class, Hawaii Fluid Art can help you re-connect with that feeling in our unique art classes. We are dedicated to:

1.?Lifting the Spirits of Students and Teachers

Hawaii Fluid Art’s popularity stems from our ability to help you find your happy place with art .?The process of creating fluid art is very relaxing and therapeutic, and the slow and deliberate movement of the paint and the mesmerizing patterns can help relieve stress and promote relaxation.

Art is so important to our lives, and everyone can be an artist. Our students walk away from our classes feeling loved, supported, important, empowered and capable. Back-to-school art projects are a great way to ease your child’s (or your own) anxiety and boost their self-esteem. Our Children’s Art Experience lets kids eight and under create a 12 x 12” fluid art painting in a specially priced one-hour class.

Schools are often a melting pot of different cultures. Art can help students develop empathy and respect for others and to celebrate diversity, which is critical to fostering emotional maturity.

Also, don’t forget that holiday season is just around the corner! If you’re looking for a unique gift for your child’s teacher, a Hawaii Fluid Art gift certificate is always a great idea.

2.?Building a Bond Between Team Members

The return of the school year means the return of competitive academic and sports teams. Fluid art is not your typical team-building exercise. It can boost your team’s focus and concentration and encourage creative thinking. Most importantly, it’s a fun way to let off steam or celebrate a victory. And, don’t forget about your corporate teams who may be easing back into regular work schedules after summer vacation season. With a variety of art?experiences -- from acrylic pour painting to resin beach scenes to resin tumblers -- our studios offer something for every taste and ability level. Best of all, we offer discounts for groups of ten or more!

The number of students we can teach at one time varies by studio size, so check with your nearest location to book a group class. One of our studios recently hosted a group of 150 young people on summer break! It required some careful planning and coordination, but a great time was had by all!

3.?Raising Funds for School Groups and Special Projects

We help you put the FUN back in your fundraising. Hawaii Fluid Art believes in the power of people giving to people, so our studios partner with local non- profit organizations throughout the year. We can support your school’s fundraising efforts with fluid art and resin art activities that not only generate money but also allow participants to walk away with unique masterpieces to commemorate your event.

It is never too young for children to learn the value of giving back to their communities. Hawaii Fluid Art partners with various local, regional and national charities at a corporate and local level. Most recently, we launched a donation drive for the Maui Food Bank?to support our ohana (Hawaiian family) impacted by the Maui wildfires.

4.?Serving Homeschooled Students

Even though they are not returning to a physical school campus, homeschooled students can experience the same benefits of creating fluid art in our studios. If you are a homeschooling parent, Hawaii Fluid Art can help you:

  • Add art to your curriculum: Our studios offer multiple classes every day, and?most are open seven days a week, so it is easy to add art to your child’s schedule on a regular basis. With a variety of fluid art and resin art experiences and techniques, your child can try something new every time they take a class at one of our studios.
  • Increase your child’s self-esteem: Fluid art requires no experience or special artistic skill, so anyone can be an artist. Your child’s confidence will soar when they see the masterpieces they have created at our studios.
  • Promote socialization: It takes extra effort to give homeschooled students exposure to social situations. Taking a class with their friends or other homeschooled children can help them feel more connected with their peers.

5.?Catering to Special Needs Students

The therapeutic power of fluid art?is well documented. Since our inception, Hawaii Fluid Art has been catering to people with traumatic brain injuries and other disabilities. I began my career helping people with brain injuries delve into their artistic talents as therapy. This led me to develop a proprietary method of fluid art using acrylic paint and a special pouring medium. The demand for our classes grew, and our reach rapidly spread from our first studio in Waikoloa, Hawaii to locations across the U.S. -- and coming soon to Canada.

All of our studios meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards for accessible design, making them an ideal setting for special needs art classes.

Hawaii Fluid Art’s mission is to inspire and nurture the human spirit, one painting at a time. ?For a list of locations and to schedule a class, visit our website at https://hawaiifluidart.com/.?

I am a teacher in West Texas. How can we help Maui students get home school help for parents and families no matter what their circumstances. It is hard to home school kids especially when there is no "home". Let us help however we can or I can.
