Aloha, Health Revolution: My Purpose-Driven Pursuit of Treating LIFE as Health

Can you remember a pivotal moment in your life that you recognize, now, as formative? Did it influence you to act, or simply trigger reflection?
As I'm sure most of you have, I've experienced a few of these moments. One, in particular, led me to take the leap towards my next grand adventure.
The notion that "LIFE is health" has echoed in my head since I heard Alexandra Drane say it on-stage at StrataRx in 2012. Financial health, family and relationship health, job stability and satisfaction: what she coined, "The Unmentionables," (which has spawned an entire series of TED talks), I've become obsessed with deconstructing, quantifying, and striving to align this visionary concept with my corporate and passion project pursuits.
Social determinants, mental and behavioral health, and geography's influence on health, and subsequently the individuals' healthcare experience, cannot be understated. These data points are not merely "factors". These are the foundation of individual and community health ecosystems. They matter.
Recent personal events have brought the unmentionables concept from the abstract to the concrete. Recognizing the health ecosystem as being comprised of life in all its intricacy matters to me - as a person, a patient, a spouse, a parent, and a caregiver. And I was compelled to act, as an entrepreneur, on these seeds that were sown from that stage, so many years ago.
Life is health. But until we can make life's impact on health visible, we will continue to define and treat health as the presence or absence of disease. And that is not enough.
Aloha, Health revolution.
