Here at Almeda we take health and supporting our local community very seriously, so much so that this coming week we’re quite literally kicking things off by taking part in a new 5-a-side football charity tournament.
Thursday will see a team of eight Almedian’s play their first match in the charity tournament at Oasis Academy in Hengrove, taking place on their amazing 3G pitch. The tournament is being arranged by Powerplay Team Sports who are accredited by the FA and take care of all the details from fixtures, refs to footballs.
Raising money for charity
Not only is this a great way to bring the team together and promote physical activity, something that we give a lot of attention to such as when we held our Health and Wellbeing Day at the end of last year, but we will also be fundraising for charity. All match fees that we raise will be donated to the Jessie May’s Children Hospice, a local charity who provide some incredible care and services to terminal ill local children and their families.
Graham, Richard, Khaled, Sean, Chris, Ian, Matt, Adam and Gordon will be making up our team of eight. The season will be kicked off this week and we will (hopefully!) move forward with a few other games against various other local teams in a group stage format, moving on to a knockout stage.
Being active for a good cause
We’ve made a great start to the year and undertaken some training already by completing our recent step challenge for the Prince’s Trust. This saw us collectively walk an astounding 7,705,446 steps over a month’s period, raising just under £1,000 for this incredible charity. This certainly has helped limber us up so we can put our best foot forward and reach the knockout stage!
