From 1 to 400 mirrors; The AlmaLinux Mirror System Story
In August of 2021 we first launched our new and improved mirror system, including the geo-location feature that allows users to automatically use the closest mirror to them. Since we launched, we’ve grown from around 100 mirror servers to over 400. We’ve also made a lot of improvements to the mirrorlist which supports over 1 million systems worldwide. ELevate gets a huge update - now supports CentOS Stream 8-9, Scientific Linux upgrades, and hardware detection
ELevate just received the biggest update since 2021 when the project was first announced! ELevateNG has been promoted to stable, and we received tons of community-contributed feedback. Read the blog post to dive into what has been updated.
Upcoming Events
August was fairly light with events, though we did attend SIGGRAPH and Flock to Fedora. Here’s what’s coming up for the rest of the year:
If you see an event missing that you think we should attend, or if you know of any amazing open source events in Asia, South America, or Africa, let us know! Our community is growing quickly in those areas, and we’d love a chance to connect with them!
We’re also looking for volunteers from the AlmaLinux community to help staff our booths. If you like chatting with folks about Linux and open source and are local to any of these events (or any others that you think we should be at) fill out this Google form! We’ll cover your travel and hotel.?
