Allyship on LinkedIn

In a world increasingly interconnected through platforms like LinkedIn, the opportunity to be a genuine ally has never been more accessible. Let's redefine allyship beyond the performative, embracing LinkedIn as a powerful tool for building connections and driving meaningful change. Here's what I’m trying:

?? Network Beyond Your Circle:

Challenge: If your sector lacks diversity, it's crucial to expand your network. LinkedIn offers a unique advantage in connecting with professionals beyond your immediate circle. Follow accounts and hashtags related to diversity, equity, and inclusion to broaden your awareness.?

Genuine Commitment: Actively listen to perspectives different from your own. Engage in conversations, seek understanding, and be open to learning. Authentic allyship starts with genuine curiosity and a commitment to dismantling biases.

?? Share Your Learning:

Continuous Learning: Genuine allyship is an ongoing journey. Share resources that contribute to your understanding of diverse perspectives. This invites others to join the conversation and expand their knowledge.

LinkedIn as a Learning Hub: Utilize LinkedIn as a dynamic learning hub. Whether it's articles, podcasts, or thought-provoking posts, share content that challenges conventional thinking and promotes inclusivity.

?? Connect to Coalitions for Change:

Identify Communities: LinkedIn is a goldmine for communities committed to genuine change. In less than a minute you can find relevant hashtags like #Inclusion. Take a step further by identifying campaigns aligned with your industry's commitment to diversity. For instance, in the energy sector, check out #TIDE.

Active Engagement: Invest a bit more time in understanding these initiatives. Read resources, participate in discussions, and contribute your insights. Then, leverage your LinkedIn platform to amplify the voices and causes that align with your commitment to inclusivity. Don’t forget to make sure your content is accessible with descriptions of your photos and subtitles on any videos.

?? Driving Genuine Change:

LinkedIn is not just a professional networking tool—it's a space for authentic connections, shared learning, and collective action. Let's go beyond performative allyship and use this platform to foster a community committed to making a real difference. Embrace the power of LinkedIn to build bridges, share knowledge, and drive genuine change in your industry and beyond.?

Thank you to the TIDE taskforce for encouraging me to write this article and start a discussion about how we can use Linkedin for allyship
