Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself

Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself

Hi LinkedIn. It’s been a while.?

Why? Well, I went mostly dark on all my personal social media channels around late 2020. More on that later. My last Instagram post was on September 27th of 2020. I deactivated my Facebook account shortly after. I have posted to my TikTok just once since I moved back from London (oh, yeah, I moved to and back from London). I basically have only remained semi active on Twitter –– still having a hard time letting go of the name –– and as for the rest, I’ve just kept in touch with the people in my life through group chats or on a 1:1 basis.?

With LinkedIn specifically, I frankly find the nature of a good amount of posts here to be braggadocious. I understand this is a place for presenting the best of us to our coworkers, employers (present and future ones alike), and our extended networks… but at some point it all just turned me off of wanting to share anything here. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Many friends I talk to regularly express a strong dislike of “what LinkedIn has become.” This feeling, coupled with going through many personal and health situations, made the decision to remain offline and focus on myself all too easy.

This is not to say I haven’t wanted to share things here. I actually wrote a few posts that never got the “Publish” treatment, mostly because:

1. Since I do write for a living, I am usually spent from writing on the professional side so I don’t have the energy I want to summon at the time to write for myself, and?

2. The few times I do get to a personal post, I am hypercritical of my writing when it comes to conveying a message/feeling/thought I deeply care about, so I often let my fear of “this isn’t perfect” get in the way.?

So, what changed? Many, many things. I can’t share all of them in this post without it turning into an autobiography, so I have decided that as a way to return to the platform I would challenge myself to write a post every day in October (including weekends). This was inspired in part by my artist cousin who has been doing a drawing a day since the year began. Although I admire him deeply for his commitment and discipline, I won’t be going on as long of a journey. I do write every day in some way, so I don’t want this to feel like a chore. To help me keep up with this self-assigned challenge, I already drafted up a preliminary editorial calendar, and I have quite a few things going on this month so I’m excited for the opportunity to ideate and create #OneBlogADayInOctober.?

I will be sharing a lot of what I kept to myself over the past three years, which will hopefully make it a bit more obvious why I chose to do so. I will also be sharing things learned on the professional and personal fronts, and of course, real-time events to cover the entire gamma of what makes up my life right now –– apologies in advance for the possible whiplash from how much I will be going ALL over the place. From moving abroad, to AI, to cancer, to K-Pop… every topic is on the table. Some days will be more lighthearted than others, but all in all, it will be me.?

See you tomorrow.??

And I haven't been this excited to be on LinkedIn daily ever since... well, probably ever since joining LinkedIn tbh... Less braggadociousness, more authenticity. Let's make it a movement, please. And if I can suggest a challenge on top of a challenge: genAI vs Kathy! It could be a comparison of a haiku about avocados created by you and chat-whatever-you-like-more ??

Welcome back, Kathy, I missed you. Looking forward to reading you in October, and catching up with your adventures in the past years. Looks to me like you′ve lived an entire life since then. Big virtual hugs to you, my avocado-loving friend and inspiration!

Lista y en primera fila para leerte, Kathy! Qué bien que te hayas animado a escribir, especialmente si ello resulta bueno para ti. Un abrazo!
