The Allocation Economy - The Future of Talent Acquisition: AI Agents, Skills-Based Hiring & Blended Workforce Will Dominate 2025

Recently, I was asked to share my insights on talent acquisition trends for 2025.?

The talent profession and environment evolved, and if you've been in recruitment as long as I have, you'll recognise that many of today's 'revolutionary' concepts have been quietly developing for years. I've been advocating for some of these transformative changes long before they became industry talking points. My focus has always been on practical, implementable strategies that drive real business value.

What's different now is how these elements are converging to create something altogether new, the allocation economy.

What's Really Changing?

We're moving beyond the knowledge economy, where success meant having the right information and expertise. The allocation economy focuses on how effectively we deploy and combine our resources: human talent, AI capabilities, and specialised knowledge (gig).

McKinsey reports that companies mastering dynamic talent allocation grow revenue 2.2 times faster than their peers.

This isn't surprising when you look at the broader trends:

  • 44% of core job skills will shift by 2025 (World Economic Forum)
  • 42% of organisations are moving to skills-based hiring (Deloitte)
  • AI agents are transforming how we identify and deploy talent

What This Means for Your Organisation

The successful organisations of 2025 will need to be good at:

  • Combining human expertise with AI capabilities
  • Deploying talent fluidly (blend) across traditional boundaries
  • Building collective intelligence through networks
  • Using skills-based approaches over traditional role-based models

Satya Nadella said: "Every company is now a talent company."

The question is: how will you adapt?

Where to Start

Begin by rethinking how you:

  • Deploy talent (fluid vs fixed)
  • Measure success (impact vs activity)
  • Integrate technology (enabler vs tool)
