Alleima advances innovation, sustainability, and capacity with KTH partnerships and key investments

Alleima expands steam generator tubing facilities to meet nuclear demand

Alleima is set to expand its steam generator tubing (SGT) facilities in Sandviken, Sweden, with a SEK 330 million investment between 2024-2026. This move will boost capacity by 60% to meet growing global demand in the nuclear segment, including full-scale nuclear power plants and Small Modular Reactor (SMR) tubing.

“This is a unique opportunity to increase our capacity quickly and meet the demand from our customers in the Nuclear segment,” says Goran Bjorkman , President and CEO of Alleima.

The expansion includes reopening a previously mothballed facility and will create around 90 new jobs, with production ramping up by the end of 2026. With over 50 years of experience in the nuclear industry, Alleima remains a leading supplier of SGT and recently delivered its first commercial order for SMR tubing.

Alleima and KTH strengthen partnership in research and education

Alleima has signed a strategic partnership agreement with KTH Royal Institute of Technology to enhance collaboration in research, education, and innovation. The partnership aims to address societal challenges by deepening cooperation in materials science, chemistry, and chemical engineering.

“This collaboration allows us to increase the power of innovation in areas where the world and society face major challenges,” says Tom Eriksson , EVP & Head of Strategic Research at Alleima.

Bj?rn Glaser , Partnership Manager at Kungliga Tekniska h?gskolan , adds, “Through close collaboration with Alleima, we can develop innovative solutions for leading research and education. Together, we contribute to a more sustainable society and accelerate the transition.”

This partnership builds on years of collaboration between Alleima and KTH, including joint R&D projects, PhD exchanges, and contributions to education programs that align with industry needs.

Alleima awarded EcoVadis gold medal for sustainability excellence

Alleima has been awarded a prestigious gold medal by EcoVadis, placing the company in the top 5% of more than 130,000 companies assessed globally. This honor highlights Alleicommitment to sustainability across its operations and supply chain.

"We are proud to have been awarded the EcoVadis gold medal. It shows our ability, capacity, and commitment to handle a broad range of sustainability aspects," says Johnny Ulander , Sustainability Manager at Alleima.

The gold medal upgrade from last year when we were awarded the silver, underscores our continuous efforts to improve its sustainability practices, including the use of recycled steel and fossil-free electricity. Additionally, we rank in the top 1% for sustainable procurement in its industry.
