All you want to buy is…
many things to be honest. Well, it really depends on the person after all;
end of the story. Nah…
Meet Laura.
Actually, it’s more than hard to get to grab a coffee with her. She’s always on the move! Staying idle only when working — so hanging out at that time is a no-no — or when waiting for a train, a plane or some other means of transport that doesn’t rhyme with “ain”.
Laura is a journalist and when not bound to her 9–5 office, she’ll be out and about interviewing the mayor-to-be or an old lady that’s lost her cat! Or firemen, or a teen genius!
All she wants to buy is, experiences. By “experiences” Laura couldn’t mean but one thing:?Travelling. Determined to always blend in with the locals, she hates to term “tourist”. Wanting to get a real feel for said place, whilst spending as much time there as possible, she always seems to be able to dig out the most outrageous of deals. Working via her laptop for a month, while living 3 time-zones away, is simply every other month’s reality to her.
Meet Alex.
Were you to live in the same imaginary reality as he does, you’d probably have already seen him online. Come on, I can’t be the only one that’s heard of “AlexIsLiveTime” !?
Being a YouTuber and App Developer Alex spends 80% of his awake time behind a screen. Objection: 3 screens! You’d hear him argue in his comical voice. Being a tech lover, enthusiast and slave all at the same time, he can’t but?need?all the coolest and shiniest gadgets. iMac, iPhone, iPod, iPaid every little gizmo has its purpose and place.
All he wants to buy is, the future.?Being a “poor man’s” Iron Man is what he does best. New?Gadgets is?all he ever craves. That new high-end camera is the reason he gets coding every morning, and these kinds of goals are the cornerstones around which he builds his schedule.
Meet Elisabeth.
But?shhh?don’t disturb her. That bookworm of a person should be tucked away in some cosy corner, 76 pages deep already. A machine that turns coffee into knowledge is what she is. A machine that hates with a passion every machine built after the turn of the millennium that is.
She only gives in when it comes to music. A high-end .mp3 player is always, at least 76% charged and filled to the brim with soothing music, in her pocket. Her eyes though, pierce through old-looking books. Give her a hardback and take her heart. Speaking of the “devil”, that’s another gripe of hers. The dream of snuggling next to somebody while her mind travels through time periods and universes is just that; a dream.
When a man looks at her wavy dark hair, tangled between her square blue glasses or fingers, never thinks “Oh, I want to dance with her in the rain and have passionate sex until the dawn.”. All people ever seem to feel upon staring at her is “Yeah, that’s the person that’ll help me get that impossible-to-earn?cheese?in Trivial Pursuit.”.
All she wants to buy is, knowledge.?Through magical worlds, alternate realities and deep analyses, she learns.?Books?are what she spends those “few” extra pennies on every month. And once a year, the need for a new bookshelf populates her “groceries list”.
This craze started when she learnt how to read. Age 5. Monday, June 7 1993.
So there goes Laura, Alex and Elisabeth. It is said that:
“If you’re the best person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.”
And these people, oh these people are much whatever-er than I ever hope to become. Surround yourself with what you want to achieve, and slowly, but steadily, it is bound to be internalised. Someday. I know, “Someday” is not a day of the week, but alas. Just set the ball rolling and we’ll play it by ear.
My new imaginary friends, representing parts of me, pasts of mine and the futures I hope to get, are actually here, now. Much like how the Resurrection Stone gave Harry what he needed the most, when he needed it the most.
Allow me to walk you out the door with a quote of a favourite?don’t-you-dare-argue-he-is-imaginary?headmaster of mine:
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
If you?loved?what you read, consider “clapping” for it and subscribing.
Take Care,
Chris.
