All You Need to Know About GE Virtual Internship 2020

“An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.”

Former Chairman and CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch was a great writer apart from being a renowned business executive. He had joined GE as a chemical engineer and he paved his way all along till the Chairman’s role. That’s an upright success! Unfortunately, he passed away earlier this year.

Why am I getting into the details of GE?

Last month, I came across the General Electric GE Virtual Internship being offered on the InsideSherpa platform. Since COVID-19 has turned the lives of students upside down, I believe Virtual Experiences are there to rescue. Hence, I have completed the GE Virtual Internship — Digital Technology (ERP). If you have been keen on the working of General Electric and wish to know how would they solve a Business Process Gap with Enterprise Resource Planning Software, please read ahead:

The General Electric Virtual Internship revolves around the pivot of Digital Technology. This program involves insights into Enterprise Resource Planning. This opportunity gives you a sneak-peek into the exciting, cutting-edge projects GE interns work on every day. Divided into three tasks, the program is self-paced which makes it easier for anybody from any background to kickstart their career with GE and learn from them directly.

Every task starts with a Task Narrative attached which describes the roles of people in the services function and what they may view as critical with respect to the service being performed. Using these narratives, you are supposed to:

  1. Identify business gaps and isolate them on the basis of the background of the project assigned.
  2. Research and evaluate the ERP system solution by building a high-level L1 Process Map.
  3. Perform Root Cause Analysis and develop a Fishbone Diagram to isolate the cause of business process gaps.
  4. Articulate and summarize a clear and distinct business problem statement.
  5. Brainstorm and propose a potential solution for the business problem statement identified.
  6. Research and comprehend the capabilities of the ERP system modules. Evaluate the modules for their employability in eliminating the process gaps.

One of the things that make this program extremely useful and informative is the rich collection of resources that are provided alongside every task. They not only provide extra information about the technicalities of Process Maps and ERP Modules and Systems but also give you a strong background of the project details through easy ‘role-playing’ summaries.

The tasks conclude with a streamlined and efficient process, coupled with an appropriate business system to ensure the best outcomes and services are delivered to the end-customer.

Virtual Experiences are the outcome of the digital transformation our world is going through at this time. As mentioned in my previous blog, I would continue to share other Virtual Experiences/Internships as soon as I come across any. :)
