Remembrance Sunday on the 10th of November 2024, followed by Armistice Day now known as Rememberance Day on Monday the 11th, commemorating the end of World War I in 1918. People from all walks of life across the nation will gather to honor the fallen. Those who sacrificed much on the battefield, those involved in frontline and back-office operations to support the war effort.
They fought for a cause, because they vauled their freedom and democracy and the right to free speech and importantly so that future generations like ourselves, could live in freedom. Remembrance Sunday is more than a solemn occasion; it's a call to pause, reflect, and remember those who sacrificed so much.
World War I reshaped the course of history, leaving a profound impact. The armistice signed on November 11th, 1918, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, marked the end of hostilities. The war wasn't the 'war to end all wars' as hoped, but it taught us about resilience, sacrifice, and unity.
World War II revealed why Hitler had to be defeated and the evidence that unfolded within the concentration camps, showed man's depravity against the Jews. It should be #neveragain
Why We Remember this day and those who served is vital. They left homes, families, and dreams unexplored to defend a future they would never see. For them, the choice was stark and the outcome uncertain.
Each poppy worn is a testament to the lives lost and dreams unfulfilled. The silence we observe, a collective breath, honours those who didn't return. At 11 am, we will pause. The two minutes of silence serve not only as a tribute but as a chance to reflect deeply on the past's lessons.
