All the Way to Clinical Perfection
Hailing from Delhi; Dr Pooja Garg is a passionate medical professional who remains keen on developing her medical career as a renowned clinician and an OB-GYN specialist. She decided to go for an international membership like MRCOG, often termed as the gold standard membership for OB-GYN specialists across the globe, with the objective of improving her clinical skills and moving up in her career.
?“This (choosing MRCOG) was probably the right choice I took as it helps me a lot with my clinical exposure and experience,” says Dr Pooja. “The decision to join the Advanced Clinical Program with StudyMEDIC at Sunrise Hospital was even a better one, as it helps get the right guidance, clinical exposure, hands-on training and round-the-clock mentoring and so on,” she added.
?
Here, Dr Pooja opens up about how she cleared MRCOG Part 1 in a single attempt with the support of the Advanced Clinical Program run by StudyMEDIC in association with Sunrise Hospital Delhi.

How did you hear about this clinical program? Do you think it is a real game changer for every aspirant?
I didn't have any idea about the chance of doing a clinical program along with MRCOG. I came to know about the clinical program through Dr Nikitha - one of my mentors at Sunrise Hospital, Delhi.
?
What are the main differences and advantages you felt in clinical programs? Why would you recommend this to any of your friends?
I was interested in taking MRCOG. However, I did not know that I could do MRCOG along with attaining clinical experience. When I heard about the program, it sounded interesting and I decided to join the program without a second thought. Honestly, I haven’t got a chance to regret my decision whatsoever so far.
?
I feel the program is highly useful as it helps the aspirants gain clinical experience along with an internationally renowned membership from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. As the clinical programs are conducted in association with the top hospitals, it gives an opportunity to apply the knowledge I gained from textbooks and guidelines in a real hospital setting and environment, which leads to better retention of information and knowledge we gather over the period of our medical education and studies. The clinical exposure I received was also excellent.
?
There is a rotation system and how do you think this rotation system is helping you?
The best thing about this program is that whatever we are reading in the books and guidelines, we are actually implementing it in the real hospital environment. This has increased our retention power. We are also getting very good clinical exposure through this clinical program.
?
How do you rate the breadth of exposure of the clinical program?
As part of the rotation of the clinical program, I get a chance to get exposure in all other departments and this gives us real clinical exposure. I’ve been to various departments including IVF, laparoscopic, obstetrics and gynaecology, OPD, post-OPD, and other departments. I have learned a lot from each department and am very pleased with the clinical program's breadth of exposure.

How do the mentors help you in your journey toward a better clinician?
My mentors have played a big role in my journey towards becoming a better clinician. In fact, they help me in every aspect. They not only support me to improve my clinical and surgical skills but also provide me with motivation and support. Without a doubt, I can simply say that my mentors have a big role in my journey towards MRCOG.
?
What are the main things that helped you clear your MRCOG Part 1 examination and what about the role played by StudyMEDIC?
I just want to rate 10 out of 10 to my StudyMEDIC family. Everything including live lectures, course material, question banks… Everything was well planned. The best thing I felt about the StudyMEDIC curriculum is about their daily activity. We had proper guidance on how to study. Whatever instructions or schedules that the StudyMEDIC team has given have played a big role in improving my knowledge and skills. Everything was so compiled. We got a clear idea about what topic we need to study and what are the strategies that we can apply.
I always tried to follow all the instructions and complete whatever activity I was assigned. The StudyMEDIC app was also user-friendly, and their support team was always available to assist.
?
How did StudyMEDIC mentors help you improve your skills?
Dr. Swathi and Dr. Chitra are my favourite mentors and they were available round-the-clock to provide support and answer any questions I had. If we text mentors regarding any doubt, the response will be very quick. Whenever I had doubts or uncertainties, they responded quickly, holding my hand through every step of this journey.
?
Can you describe your Study Pattern?
In the beginning, I was uncertain about how to balance my hospital rotations with studying for the MRCOG exam. I had so many questions in my mind and I was confused. I had a call with Deepti ma'am and she gave me the confidence to move forward. That conversation with Deepti Ma'am helped me believe in myself. Initially, I was just sticking to the daily activity only.? I started slowly and gradually increased my study hours over time, eventually studying for 2 to 5 hours per day.
?
What is your opinion about qualifying for various international medical memberships and fellowships? What is your dream after completing MRCOG?
For me, I am very clear that I don't want to settle outside. I choose MRCOG to groom myself clinically. I wanted to improve my academics and was interested in adding some degrees to my name. I choose the right path by choosing both Sunrise Hospital and StudyMEDIC. After completing MRCOG, I am sure I will be better in academics and also in surgical and clinical skills. I want to be a better clinician, that's my focus.?
What are your interested specialisation areas in OB-GYN?
Sunrise is a pioneer in Laparoscopy. I wanted to be a very good laparoscopic surgeon.
